Pocar Homestead, Triglav National Park, Slovenia
A house where time slows down.
A rare Sunday with no meetings, no deadlines. Just me, the sun, and a deep need to walk away from it all.
After a week full of screen-staring and car rides, I craved movement. But not the high-speed kind.
Something simpler. Slower.
I’m a wreck. What did you expect?

So I left the car in Mojstrana and hiked toward the Pocar Homestead — a cultural monument of national importance.
One hour through Triglav National Park, past meadows, spruce trees, cows, and the occasional car or electric bike humming by.
Nature. Stillness. Light.

The homestead is over 240 years old. Built in 1775.
There are older documents too — the house archive holds contracts going back to 1672.
The Pocar family lived here until 1988.
Now, it’s an ethnographic house museum. But today, it’s closed.
No big deal.
I throw down my backpack, take off my boots. Let’s go barefoot. Do some earthing. Like in the good ol’ days.
There’s something sacred about this spot.
A quiet complex of buildings — the main house, a barn, a pigsty.
One weathered fresco of Christ still clings to the front wall. The roof is covered in wood shingles.
No neon signs. No audio guides. Just sun, wind, wood, and stone.

I lie down in the grass. The house talks.
Not with words — but with the way the beams creak, the shadows stretch, the silence holds.
I peek through the windows.
Too dark. Too small.
Then I remember — this is 2025. We have tech.
I place my phone flat against the glass and click.

I’ve made my own digital visit.
A peek inside. Rough wooden floors. Thick walls. A cozy corner.
A black kitchen stained with years of smoke.
I want to be in there. Next time.

On the way back, the road is easier. I greet passing cyclists. Some wave back.
No race. No rush. Just a step at a time.
Because sometimes, what we need is not expensive, not hard-earned through hustle or sweat.
Sometimes it’s just a house museum.
Some sun.
Some stillness.
Not everything has to move fast.
Not everything needs an electric engine.
Sometimes we need to go old school — to slow down, listen, and look back.
House museums do that.
Even when they’re closed.

Soundtrack: Iggy Pop – Sunday
I crawl for Sunday
When I don’t have to move
Caught up in dreams, untangled one day
Where I don’t have to prove
Because sometimes you don’t need noise, speed, or progress.
You just need a quiet house with creaky floors and a patch of sunlight on the grass.
